Unique Features of Lake McKenzie
There are various kinds of lakes on Fraser Island but Lake McKenzie is a perched lake. These types of lakes are created when decaying matter forms a skin layer that seals a small crater or valley. When it rains the water is trapped and a lake is formed.
The water depth of Lake McKenzie varies but its deepest point is about five meters. Vegetation surrounds most of the lake but the shoreline is pure white sand. The sand is super fine and very soft. It acts as a filter for the rainwater that flows into the lake. Because of this filtering procedure, the water of the lake is super clear.
The pure white sand, the crystal clear fresh water and the overall pristine nature of Lake McKenzie cannot be fully appreciated until you see it for yourself. As someone once said, “You cannot claim to be a world traveller until you have set foot on Lake McKenzie.”
